Training for the State Environmental Inspectorate on Water/Wastewater Analysis

Objectives At the conclusion of the training activity the participants were expected to be able to:

- Apply water/wastewater analysis tools to sludge/soil samples;
- Ensure data accuracy by using data quality control tools;
- More efficiently operate and maintain the laboratory equipment for wastewater and sludge/soil analysis.
Program description The intent of the training program was to increase the capacity of the SEI Central Laboratory staff to implement the environmental pollution prevention and control program. By engaging in on-the-job training, the participants were able to gain first-hand analytical experience on water and wastewater sampling.
The training event was conducted in the SEI Central Laboratory in Yerevan.
The following topics were discussed during of the program:
- Application of Water Analysis Methodology for Soil/Sludge Analysis
- Data/Measurements Quality Assurance and Quality Control
- Petroleum Products determination method in wastewater samples
- Dissolved Oxygen measurements by Orion probe for Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD) determination in wastewater samples
The program schedule was designed to accommodate both theoretical (approximately 15%) and practical components (85%). The participants were able to use then newly learnt methods in practice together with the instructors. The training also provided the participants with an opportunity to use and learn about the SPECORD 205 spectrophotometer- equipment that was purchased by the laboratory several months ago, but has never been used due to lack of staff training.
